Synopsis

Silas Marner: The Weaver of Raveloe is a novel written by Mary Ann Evans, an English novelist of Victorian Era known by her pen name George Eliot, remembered for her works of realism such as Middle March, Adam Bede and The Mill on the Floss.

Silas Marner, a weaver has been framed by his friend William Dane and convicted for stealing funds from a community. Silas’s fiancee Sarah forbids their marriage and went to marry Dane. Silas leaves the city and moves to a small village with his only savings of gold. Dunstan Cass steals his gold and disappears. Godfrey Cass, elder brother of Dunstan Cass is on the verge of marrying Nancy. He is being blackmailed by his own brother about his early secret marriage with Molly Farren, who is opium addicted. While on her way to prove her relationship with Godfrey, she dies and her baby crawls to Silas’s house. Godfrey is now a relieved from Molly and does not reveal anyone about her death.

The baby’s arrival creates phenomenal changes to Silas’s life. He names the girl as Eppie. Godfrey aids Silas in bringing up his daughter, though secretly. Eppie receives mother’s care from Silas kind neighbor Dolly Winthrop. Years passed, Eppie grows up as beautiful and kind girl, very much attached to her adopted father Silas.

Meanwhile Godfrey and Nancy lead their life childless. Godfrey reveals her about Eppie and they come to bring her to their life. However Eppie does not want to go with her maternal father. The story ends up in Eppie’s marriage with Dolly’s son and the extended family of Silas lives peacefully.
