Synopsis

Phaedo is one of the greatest dialogues of Plato, the Greek Philosopher and disciple of Socrates. This dialogue is believed to have been told by Socrates during his death. Socrates proposes that suicide is incorrect and one should look forward to death, as it is only perpetual cycle to life. Four arguments have been provided for his claim.

First argument, Argument from Opposites, implies the life and death occurs in perpetual cycle. Second argument, Theory of Recollection, knowledge is nothing but the recollection of what we know on birth, which is lost during our growth and can be recollected by proper questioning, to conclude it our soul existed before we were born. Third argument, Argument from Affinity stats body is material and perishable, soul is immaterial, invisible and immortal.
To conclude death occurs to body and we will be reborn perpetually.
