Synopsis

This Side of Paradise is written by Francis Scott Fitzgerald, an American author who coined the term Jazz Age. Along with his magnum opus “The Great Gatsby”, he has written four novels including This Side of Paradise, The Beautiful and Damned, and Tender Is the Night.

This Side of Paradise being his debutant work is a semi-autobiographic novel, conceived by the author while his one year old courtship with Zelda Sayre failed, and the couple united after he published the novel successfully.

Amory Blaine, convinced with his abilities to flourish in the literary world attends Princeton University leaving his eccentric mother and befriends with her friend Monsignor Darcy, whom he considers as his mentor. He is disillusioned by his first lover with Isabelle Borgé, he travels abroad to serve in the World War. After the war is over, he moves to New York and falls in love with Rosalind Connage. His financial status is not in favor of his love and Rosalind Connage parts with him and marries a wealthy man. Added to his devastation is the news about the death of his mentor Monsignor.
