Synopsis

The Story of Little Black Mingo is an illustrative children book written and illustrated by Helen Bannerman, a Scottish author who wrote many children’s books such as Story of Little Black Mingo, Story of Little Black Quibba, Little Kettle-Head, Pat and the Spider, and The Teasing Monkey.

Little Black Mingo, a poor orphan girl leads a humiliating life with the evil minded woman Black Naggy who always tortures her for the shelter she provides. One day when Mingo was asked to bring water from the nearby river, she was caught by a horrible Mugger and was taken to the Island, to be served as a food for the little crocodiles.

After reaching the Island, in spite of being a captive, she helps others during troubles and wins the heart of a Mongoose. The rest of the story is narrated as how she escaped from the old Mugger with the help of Mongoose.
