Synopsis

The Metamorphoses of Ovid is a poem in narrative style written by Publius Ovidius Naso, a Roman poet known to the English world as Ovid who has been compared the caliber of Virgil and Horace.

Apart from his magnum opus The Metamorphoses, he has been attributed to many poetic works including The Heroines, The Loves, Women's Facial Cosmetics, The Art of Love, The Cure for Love and The Festivals.

The Metamorphoses, though contains the elements of an epic, it is difficult to assign a literary genre to it. This poem explores the chronologically starts with the creation of world and end with Julius Caesar’s death. This work is divided into four major divisions titled The Divine Comedy, The Avenging Gods, The Pathos of Love and Rome and the Deified Ruler.
