Synopsis

The Babes in the Wood is a picture book written for children by British author Randolph Caldecott, some of his works include The House that Jack Built, John Gilpin, and Elegy on a Mad Dog.

The Babes in the Wood narrates the story of two children, whose father in deathbed requests their uncle to take care after his death. After the death of their father, their uncle and take the children to his home, only to inherit the properties.

After one year passed, he inherits the wealth and sends the children through his friend, to make them not to return to his home. The children are taken and while goes through a dark forest area, the stranger drops them and ask them to wait till he returns. The poor children were waiting till their death, and the stranger never returned.
