Synopsis

Tales of Old Japan is a collection of anthology works written by Baron Algernon Bertram, a British writer and diplomat better known by his popular name A.B. Mitford. His notable works include The Bamboo Garden, The Attaché at Peking, The Garter Mission to Japan, and Memoirs.

His years of service at Japan as a diplomat and visits to the country as an author, made him to witness many Japanese rituals and culture enabled him to write this tales collection which contains Tales of old Japan, Fairy Tales of Japan, and Japanese sermons.

Some of the notable stories in this collection are The Forty-Seven rônins, Kazuma's Revenge, The Tongue-cut Sparrow, The Eta Maiden and the Hatamoto, The Battle of the Ape and the Crab, The Adventures of Little Peachlin, The Grateful Foxes, The Prince and the Badger, and The Sermons of Kiu-O in 3 volumes.
