Synopsis

Sister Carrie is a novel written by the American author Theodore Herman Albert Dreiser who is remembered for portraying his lead characters attaining success with lack of morality.  Among his more than 30 fiction,non-fiction and Drama works notable ones include  Sister Carrie, An American Tragedy, The Financier, The Bulwark, Twelve Men, The Color of a Great City, and The Hand of the Potter.

Sister Carrie narrates the story of a rural girl Caroline Meeber who loses her unspoiled innocence to climb in the social ladder and went on to become an actress.  Caroline Meeber leaves her native village and finds her shelter in her sister's house at Chicago. To earn her bread and butter she starts working in a shoe factory but soon realizes, she can't attain the life of her dreams.  In-spite of resistance from her sister, she starts mingling with upper class people and went on to become an actress neglecting the fact her innocence is lost during her journey towards acquiring luxurious life style.
