Dust is a novel written by Julian Hawthorne, who is son of the famous American novelist Nathaniel Hawthorne known for his adultery fiction work "The Scarlet Letter".  Julian Hawthorne has written numerous literary works to his credit in the form of short stories, mystery novels, poems and essays. Some of his published works are  Bressant, Idolatry: A Romance, Garth, Saxon Studies, Archibald Malmaison, and Sebastian Strome. The Subterranean Brotherhood was his infamous non-fiction work demanding end to incarceration of criminals was written based on his own experiences in prison during his convicted crime of silver mining share fraud.
