Twelve Years a Slave

Synopsis

Though there have been many personal memoirs on the subject of slavery, this true story is definitely worth reading.  This personal memoir is written by Solomon Northup who was born and brought up as a freeman in New York.  His gifted life with his wife and two kids was destroyed overnight when he was drugged, kidnapped and sold as slave in the south.  The narrative explores his journey during his twelve years as a slave in the most grueling circumstances.  His resilience with hope and spirit during his hard times is a live example of the famous phrase " When the going gets tough, the tough gets going".
