Synopsis

The Life of Galileo Galilei is the biography of the great scientist written by the English writer John Elliot Drinkwater Bethune, who has been remembered for promoting women’s education and pinnacled his efforts by founding Bethune College in India.

This biographic work not only portrays the life of the great scientist, but the conflict between science and religion.  Galileo, the founder of modern experimental science was condemned by the then Roman Catholic Church for espousing the idea that the Earth moves around the Sun. While his father wanted him to become a doctor, he broke away and started studying mathematics after reading Aristotle’s philosophy and it eventually lead him to the important discovery – The law of Pendulam.
